About
A direct student of J. Peter Steidlmayer, the creator of Market Profile, with 35 years of experience using it.
Tom studied Market Profile directly under its creator, J. Peter Steidlmayer. He began his career in financial services in 1987 and has worked both the buy side and sell side of the trading desk, at Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch and A.G. Edwards, and as co general partner of DLR Investments.
An independent trader since the early 2000s, he is a top down tactical trader who reads the auction across days and weeks, not minutes. Today he hosts The Pit, a weekly live session on Mr. Top Step, and writes a weekly article for the Opening Print.
Throughout his career Tom has kept one guiding principle: focus on the relevant. Separating meaningful market signals from noise, and letting supply and demand do the talking, remains the cornerstone of his approach.
The philosophy
01
Identify price in relation to perceived value. Everything else follows from that.
02
Moves sponsored by institutions tend to be larger and last longer than those driven by retail traders.
03
Prices over and under react to value. Those overreactions create asymmetric opportunities.
